THE DIFFERENTIAL OIL OF THE TRANSAXLE IS LOST OVER TIME DUE TO EVAPORATION. LOW OIL LEVELS CAUSE PREMATURE BEARING AND GEAR WEAR AND EVENTUAL FAILURE OF THE DIFFERENTIAL. Remedy: DRAIN AND REPLACE THE DIFFERENTIAL GEAR OIL WITH OIL HAVING HIGHER PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS.
CERTAIN REAR BRAKE CALIPERS COULD BIND AND CONSEQUENTLY OVERHEAT. Remedy: REQUIRES INSPECTION OF BRAKE CALIPERS AND REPLACEMENT OF CALIPERS AS NECESSARY.
REPEATED TOPPING OFF OF FUEL TANK DURING REFUELING REDUCES THE EXPANSION SPACE WITHIN THE TANK ALLOWING VAPORS TO ESCAPE FROM THE CHARCOAL FILTER TO OUTSIDE RATHER THAN BEING INDUCTED INTO THE ENGINE. Remedy: INSTALL REDESIGNED FILLER NECK AND A NEW VENT VALVE AND HOSE FOR CHARCOAL FILTER. ALSO, STOP REFUELING WHEN PUMP NOZZLE SHUTS OFF.
FUEL INJECTION SEALS MAY HARDEN, DUE TO HIGH TEMPERATURE AND ALCOHOL IN SOME FUELS, AND ALLOW FUEL TO ESCAPE INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. Remedy: REPLACE ENGINES FUEL INJECTOR SEALS WITH IMPROVED SEALS PLUS IMPROVEMENTS DESIGNED TO BETTER INSULATE THE ENGINE AGAINST FIRE RISK.
We checked Transport Canada's recall database for this make, model and year.

ON VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, A LOW OIL LEVEL IN THE DIFFERENTIAL COULD CAUSE PREMATURE BEARING AND GEAR WEAR AND EVENTUAL FAILURE OF THE DIFFERENTIAL. THIS COULD RESULT IN POSSIBLE DRIVE WHEEL LOCK-UP AND LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. CORRECTION: DIFFERENTIAL WILL BE DRAINED AND OIL WILL BE REPLACED WITH AN ADVANCED DESIGN HIGH PERFORMANCE GEAR OIL. OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A REVISED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE.
On certain Audi 200 turbo and 5000 turbo, the fuel injector seals may harden due to high temperature and alcohol in fuel. This could allow fuel to escape and leak into the engine compartment as a result of turbo pressure. Fuel escaping in this manner could drop onto hot engine components and cause a fire. Correction: Fuel injector seals will be replaced with improved seals, fuel lines will be replaced with fire resistant fuel lines and the sound proofing pad will be replaced with an improved surface treated non- flammable pad. Also, measures will be taken to better seal the engine against lubricant leakage.
THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS COULD BIND AND CONSEQUENTLY OVERHEAT. AN OVERHEATED CALIPER COULD CAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL TO FEEL SPONGY, AND IN EXTREME CASES, ONE OF THE TWO BRAKE CIRCUITS COULD BECOME INOPERATIVE. THIS WOULD INCREASE STOPPING DISTANCES AND COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH. CORRECTION: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND IF NECESSARY, REPLACE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS. V.I.N. On certain Audi 5000 turbo and 5000 Quattro, repeated `topping off' of the fuel tank after the gas station pump has stopped the fuel supply during refuelling, reduces the expansion space within the fuel tank. Consequent pressure conditions within the evaporative emission control system could result in fuel vapours being released into the engine compartment. Heat from the turbo exhaust system could ignite the vapours and cause an engine compartment fire with a risk of injury to the vehicle occupants. Correction: Vehicles will be fitted with a new vent valve and a new type charcoal filter vent hose. In addition, Quattro models will receive a redesigned fuel filler neck.
