VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. IF THE ENGINE STARTER FAILS TO ENGAGE AND THE DRIVER HOLD THE KEY IN THE "START" POSITION FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD, HIGH CURRENT FLOWS THROUGH THE IGNITION SWITCH, PRODUCING HEAT THAT CAN MELT SWITCH PARTS. Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A RELAY KIT AND VERIFY THAT THE VEHICLE WILL START WITH A PROPERLY CHARGED BATTERY IN GOOD OPERATING CONDITION (ADEQUATE RESERVE CAPACITY, OR COLD CRANKING AMPS). THIS CAMPAIGN DOES NOT COVER BATTERY REPLACEMENT OR UNRELATED STARTING SYSTEM OR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM REPAIRS.

On certain vehicles, the electrical current through the ignition switch is above design capacity. Over time, this excessive current damages the ignition switch and may result in a fire in the vicinity of the steering column ignition switch which could spread to other parts of the vehicle's interior. Correction: Dealers will install a relay kit and, if necessary, replace the ignition switch and steering column tilt lever.
THESE VEHICLES DO NOT COMPLY WITH C.M.V.S.S. 301 - FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY. REAR COMPARTMENT PAN WELDS MAY NOT MEET MANUFACTURING STANDARDS. CORRECTION: DEALERS ARE TO INSTALL RIVETS ADJACENT TO THE LOCATIONS WHERE SUSPECT WELDS MAY HAVE OCCURRED.
