Issue: On certain vehicles, the front passenger airbag may have been installed incorrectly during a previous recall repair. As a result, the airbag may not inflate properly in a crash. Note: This recall affects vehicles repaired by a Mazda dealer during recalls 2318A (Transport Canada recall 2018-085) or 1817L (Transport Canada recall 2018-466). Safety Risk: An airbag that does not inflate properly can increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Action: Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to bring your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the front passenger airbag.
On certain vehicles, the passenger frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the passenger airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2015-246 (Mazda Recall 8315F). Vehicles repaired under the previous recall require a final repair under this recall, as the previous recall remedy was an interim repair. Interim repair parts must be replaced with final repair parts.
On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will replace the driver frontal airbag inflator. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2016-050 (Mazda Recall 9116A). Vehicles repaired under the previous recall require a final repair under this recall, as the previous recall remedy was an interim repair. Interim repair parts must be replaced with final repair parts.
On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected. Additional Note: This recall for this subset of vehicles which supersedes recall 2015-246 (Mazda Recall 8315F). Vehicles completed under the previous 2015-246 recall require repair under this recall, as the previous recall remedy was an interim repair. Interim repair parts must be replaced with final repair parts.
Note: A subset of 2006 B-Series (vehicles built from August 18, 2005 through November 3, 2005) may pose a higher risk of driver side airbag rupture than other recalled airbags. These vehicles are being recalled separately due to high risk under campaign 2218A. <a href=https://www.mazda.ca/en/owners/recalls/>Click here to determine if your vehicle is affected</a>. On certain vehicles, the windshield wiper motor may have been produced without grease applied to the output shaft gear. After a period of continuous use on the high-speed setting, lack of grease may cause the gear teeth to distort and/or fracture during operation, resulting in the loss of wiper function. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, apply grease to the output shaft gear.
