NISSAN IS RECALLING MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 NISSAN CUBE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JANUARY 30, 2009 THROUGH JULY 30, 2010. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY." WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ROTATED FOLLOWING A REAR MOVING BARRIER CRASH TEST AS REQUIRED, THE AMOUNT OF FUEL LEAKAGE EXCEEDED THE ALLOWABLE LIMITS. Remedy: DEALERS WILL DEVELOP A SPECIAL PROTECTOR AND ATTACH IT TO THE GASOLINE RECIRCULATION TUBE AT THE LOCATION OF THE FILLER NECK CONNECTOR. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the driver-front airbag inflator may not have been properly welded. As a result, the airbag module could separate from the steering wheel when it deploys in a crash. Safety Risk: An airbag that does not work properly could create an increased risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Action: Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the driver-front airbag inflator.
Certain vehicles may not meet the requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 301 - Fuel System Integrity. After a rear impact crash test during a compliance testing program, the post crash fuel spillage exceeded the limit specified by the standard. Should fuel leakage occur and be in close proximity to an ignition source it could result in a fire. Correction: Dealers will install a protector to the gasoline recirculation tube at the filler neck connection.
On certain vehicles, the passenger-side curtain airbag may have been incorrectly positioned during vehicle assembly. As a result, in certain types of crashes where side curtain airbag deployment is expected, a portion of the bag may be restricted from fully deploying. The side curtain airbag will still deploy in a timely manner, meeting or exceeding applicable safety standards. Correction: Dealers will replace the side curtain airbag. This action is a Customer Satisfaction Campaign and is not being conducted as per the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

The inflator in the driver airbag has a laser-welded internal seal (left side) that may not reliably hold during deployment. This may lead to a risk that the airbag module could become separated from the steering wheel when it is activated. This can cause metal fragments to be projected at great speed through the airbag into the interior of the vehicle, which can result in serious and even fatal injuries for the occupants. Production: 10.10.2008 - 25.9.2010. Types: e13*2007/46*1059.
