A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate. Issue: On certain vehicles, the compliance label may be missing information in French. The words listed on the label for "Tires", "Rims", "Front" and "Rear" appear in English only, when they should be listed as "Tires/Pneus", "Rims/Jantes", "Front/Avant" and "Rear/Arriere". Canadian regulations require this information to be listed on the label in both English and French. Safety Risk: These small errors do not affect vehicle safety. Corrective Actions: This is not a recall. Kia has corrected the compliance label for all new vehicles.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the engine could fail. An engine failure could cause a loss of power to the wheels and/or an engine fire. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a 2.4 L MPI engine. Vehicles repaired under Kia service campaign SC037 (Transport Canada recall no. 2021-040) already have the updated software, and don't require this repair. Safety Risk: A sudden loss power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. An engine fire can create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Kia will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the engine. The dealer will also update the engine control module software. Note: Kia recommends that you should always follow the correct vehicle maintenance schedule, which is printed in the Owner's Manual. If you experience unusual engine noise, reduced power, or a check engine/oil warning light, Kia advises you to immediately visit a Kia dealership to have your vehicle diagnosed.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the brake hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU) could short circuit. Safety Risk: A short circuit could create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective Actions: Kia will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the fuse(s) for the HECU. Kia recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

Due to an internal leak of brake fluid, a short circuit may occur in the electrical circuit for the ABS/ESC (anti-lock braking system / electronic stability control) system. This may lead to an increase in current and overheating in the fuse box, increasing the risk of the engine catching fire, irrespective of whether the vehicle is parked or being driven. Production: 15.01.2010 - 17.06.2013. Types: Xma; individual approval.
The Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU), responsible for the Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control System and Traction Control System, can remain live even when the vehicle is switched off. If moisture enters the HECU, an electrical short circuit can occur. If an electrical short circuit occurs, this could result in an engine compartment fire. Production: 01.07. 2010 - 21.08.2014. Types: e11*2007/46*0634*01; e11*2001/116*0358*04; e11*2007/46*0634*05; e11*2001/116*0358*06; e11*2007/46*0141*03; e11*2001/116*0358*05.
Due to a manufacturing error, the engine might overheat due to fuel or oil leaks and subsequently break down. This may endanger the following traffic and can cause a fire. Production: 11.01.2011 – 13.09.2018. Types: TF, JF, XM, FL, SL, YD; e4*2007/46*0255*, e4*2007/46*1018*, e11*2007/46*0634*.

Issue: Kia Canada is conducting a Product Improvement Campaign that provides an update to the engine control module to detect potential problems before an engine fails. An engine failure could cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Note: This only affects vehicles equipped with a 2.4 L MPI engine. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident. An engine failure could also create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Kia will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the engine control module.
On certain vehicles, the sunroof can break due to external impacts, which can cause the sunroof crosspieces with some tempered glass attached to dislodge and drop into the passenger cabin onto occupants. Such breakage would be most prevalent in provinces where gravel road treatments for ice/snow and severe temperature shifts are common. Correction: Dealers will install additional connective pieces to prevent the possibility of sunroof crosspieces dropping under a product enhancement campaign. In the interim, owners are advised to drive with the sunshade in the closed position until the campaign is completed.
Certain vehicles may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 102 - Transmission Control Functions. The transmission shift selector assembly could become damaged and allow the driver to shift the transmission out of the PARK gear position without depressing the brake pedal, contrary to the requirements of the standard. These issues could cause unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the shift interlock assembly.
On certain vehicles, the stop lamp switch may fail and cause intermittent operation of the brake lights. Failure of the brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the switch.
On certain vehicles, the automatic transmission's intermediate shaft may suffer excessive wear due to a misalignment with the right side output gear. Continued use in this condition could cause a whirring/whining noise to develop, and eventual transmission damage, which could result in a loss of vehicle propulsion. Lost propulsion, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the intermediate shaft and right side output gear.
On certain vehicles, the rear brake calipers may not have been properly machined and, as a result, brake fluid will leak due to improper sealing. If this occurs, the Low Brake Fluid Level Warning Light on the instrument panel will illuminate indicating that the brake fluid level should be attended to by the driver. If the vehicle continues to be driven with the Low Brake Fluid Level Warning Light illuminated, the driver will experience a soft or spongy brake pedal. In addition if both of these indicators are ignored, braking performance will be reduced. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the rear brake calipers.
On certain vehicles, the wiring harness used for the lighting in the vehicle's interior accent illumination located in the front door & rear door trim panels may have been improperly soldered. As a result, when the lights are illuminated, under certain conditions, an electrical short may ensue and can result in a fire. Correction: Dealers will replace the affected harnesses.
