Nissan North America, Inc. Remedy: NISSAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE EPS CONTROL UNIT IF NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2011. On certain vehicles, wiring harness connector could corrode due to exposure to snow/water containing road salt. This could result in an electrical short causing damage to the connector and increasing the risk of a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will add a waterproof seal, inspect the harness connector and replace as necessary.
On certain vehicles, the Electric Power Steering assist (EPS) control unit may have been incorrectly manufactured and could fail. This would cause a loss of steering power assist which, in some instances, may result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the EPS control unit.
