Issue: On certain motorcycles, a manufacturing defect could cause the fuel tank to leak. Safety Risk: Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, creates the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their motorcycle to a dealer to have the fuel tank inspected. If a fuel leak is found, the tank will be replaced. If no leak is present, the fuel tank cover mounting insert will be replaced with a corrected part.
On certain motorcycles, an electrical connection can be created via the brake line between the anti-lock brake (ABS) modulator and vehicle ground. If the wiring harness is frayed and contacts the ABS modulator, there is a potential for the brake line to conduct electricity, causing overheating and ultimately melting the brake line. This can result in failure of the brake system circuit, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the wiring harness and re-position the wiring harness for the engine control unit.
On certain motorcycles, oil may leak at the rebound damping plug on the rear shock absorber. Oil loss may result in damage to the interior of the shock, and could prevent proper suspension action, and could affect motorcycle stability and cause poor handling which may result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will update the Suspension Control Unit (SCU) software, and inspect the rebound damping plug. If oil leaks are found present, dealers will replace the rear shock absorber.
