Issue: On certain motorcycles, a software problem may limit the engine speed in first gear. This could cause the motorcycle not to accelerate as expected when you apply the throttle. Note: This recall affects motorcycles repaired under recall 2020-571. Safety Risk: A sudden lack of acceleration could surprise the rider, and in certain situations, could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Yamaha will contact owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to update the engine control unit (ECU) software. Yamaha recommends that you should not use your motorcycle until this updated is completed.
Issue: On certain motorcycles, the second gear in the transmission could break. If this happens, the transmission could jam and cause a sudden lock up of the rear wheel. Safety Risk: A rear wheel that locks suddenly could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Yamaha will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the transmission assembly with one that has an updated design and reprogram the electronic control unit (ECU).
Issue: On certain motorcycles, the brake switch may not work correctly due to a manufacturing defect. As a result, the brake light could stay on. This can also cause the cruise control system not to work or could cause it to turn off. Corrective Actions: Yamaha will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the front brake switch.
