Airstream, Inc. (Airstream) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Sport, Nest, Flying Cloud, International Serenity, International Signature, Classic, Globetrotter and Tommy Bahama trailers and 2020 Basecamp, Bambi and Caravel trailers. Due to improper welding, the Demco ball coupler installed on the travel trailers may not provide enough clamping force on the tow ball, potentially causing the coupler to separate from the tow ball. Remedy: Airstream will notify owners, and will send a temporary use adaptor that can be slipped over the ball portion of the coupler to allow owners to tow their trailers. For the final remedy, dealers will add a shim plate to the backside of the ball coupler clamp to put it in position to apply the required clamping force on the tow ball, free of charge. The recall began November 13, 2019. Owners may contact Airstream customer service at 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111 extension 7401 or 7411.

Issue: On certain travel trailers equipped with a Dometic propane gas stove, there could be an odour of propane gas after a short period of use. After further investigation, and verifying part numbers, Airstream has determined that these trailers were not built with a stove that is affected by this recall. Accordingly, this safety recall was withdrawn. Safety Risk: There is no safety risk. Corrective Actions: This is not a recall. This notice was published for information only.
Issue: On certain travel trailers, a defect in the Demco ball coupler could allow it to separate from the hitch ball while being towed. If this happens, the trailer could disconnect from the tow vehicle. Safety Risk: A travel trailer that disconnects from the tow vehicle creates the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Airstream will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to add shims on the backside of the ball coupler to increase clamping force on the tow ball.
Issue: The spare tire bracket could fail and separate from the travel trailer. This could cause it to fall to the ground and drag on the road or be run-over. Safety Risk: A spare tire that falls off could become a hazard for other drivers or people nearby. Corrective Actions: The company will send a replacement spare tire bracket to owners and dealers. Owners who would like help installing the bracket can contact an Airstream dealer.
