Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Fusion PHEV vehicles. The battery energy control module (BECM) may become damaged due to excessive voltage and current flow. Remedy: Owners are advised not to charge their vehicles until the remedy is completed. Dealers will replace the battery and update the BECM software for free, or Ford will repurchase the vehicle. If your vehicle is currently operating normally, Ford has authorized dealers to replace the fuse block and a software update as an interim repair before the availability of remedy parts for the final repair. This repair will be free of charge (parts and labor). As an alternative remedy, Ford is offering a vehicle refund. Please see Ford's owner notification letter or contact Ford for full details. Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the vehicle is reversing. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the SYNC software.
Issue: On certain Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), the high-voltage battery energy control module could become damaged. A battery energy control module that overheats can create the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail. As an interim repair, Ford will advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to install a fuse block for the battery energy control module. The dealer will also update the BECM software. To mitigate the safety risk, Ford advises you not to charge your vehicle until the recall repairs are completed.
