The diesel particulate filter (DPF) may be cracked on 2.0 l EcoBlue Diesel and 1.5 l EcoBlue vehicles. This could cause the vehicles to fail the legally required roadworthiness test, as exhaust emissions of soot may be above the authorised limit. The cooling airflow is insufficient, causing the oil channel to be blocked. This leads the connecting rod bearing to seize and the connecting rod to tear off. This can deteriorate the combustion engine, resulting in a rupture in the engine oil tank or engine block, creating an oil tank leak. This increases the risk of fire under the bonnet. The original control arm bolts on the rear suspension are prone to corrosion, which may cause them to fail. As a result, the steering control of the vehicle will be impaired, increasing the risk of an accident. Potential leakage of battery acid around the battery negative terminal could cause the battery monitoring sensor to fail. Over time growth of copper sulphate may accumulate. This, in turn, could provide a conductive layer underneath the Battery Monitoring Sensor, creating a low resistance to ground.
